Question: Does your group sell packages?
Not through this site. We are promoting the use of NUC's, splits, and queens. However, some of the people listed on this page may sell other bee related items including packages
Question: Where are your beekeepers physically located?
The beekeepers in Chelsea Area Beekeepers are located in Western Washtenaw and Eastern Jackson County. However, beekeepers from all over the surrounding area attend our virtual meetings and may purchase NUC's, splits, and queens from us.
Question: Are all of the NUCs overwintered?
There are several kinds of splits beekeepers may offer on their own page. This will provide a wide variety of bees for buyers.
Question: How much difference is there between the bees offered by sellers?
There are several subspecies of bees that beekeepers keep such as Italian, Carnoalian, Russian, and others. There are also beekeepers that keep hives that are not treated. And there are bees that seem especially adapted to over wintering. This is the advantage of looking at a host of different beekeepers to find the right bees for you.
Question: How are NUCs created
There are three common ways to make splits into NUCs:
• Walk away splits
• Swarm simulations
• Queen splits.
In all cases we use the bees natural tendencies to reproduce by splitting their hives and/or replacing a queen that may have been damaged or failing.
